When Niantic and Punchdrunk tried to reinvent theater

I love writing about games that reach for the stars but never quite get there, especially when companies throw good money at ideas that seem impossible. In 2010, I dug into Steven Spielberg and EA’s LMNO. In 2013, I went through Lionhead’s Milo & Kate.

For my latest, I looked into Niantic’s abandoned collaboration with Punchdrunk — a game about a secret society where you’d meet actors on the street, which, as you might imagine, ran into all sorts of public safety hurdles.
